Custom 3D Printed Tennis Trophy for a Doubles Tournament 🎾

For this project, the client wanted something more personal than a classic sports trophy. The goal was to create an original tennis trophy for a doubles tournament, with one very specific idea: the trophy had to be split into two separate parts, so each winner of the doubles team could take one piece home.

Instead of creating a standard cup or medal, we worked on a custom 3D printed trophy that was directly inspired by the world of tennis, while keeping the design simple, elegant and meaningful.

Understanding the client’s need

The brief was clear: create a custom trophy for a tennis doubles tournament called “Benji Night”.

The trophy needed to:

  • Be related to tennis

  • Include the name of the event

  • Be separable into two parts

  • Feel original and memorable

  • Stay realistic to model and manufacture with 3D printing

This last point was very important. A good custom trophy is not only about the idea, but also about making sure the design can be produced cleanly, assembled correctly, and look great once printed.

Exploring trophy concepts

Before jumping into 3D modeling, we explored several concept directions.

The idea was to find the right balance between a strong visual identity, a tennis-inspired shape, and a clever way to split the trophy into two pieces. Since the event was based around doubles, the “two-in-one” concept became the central idea of the design.

This concept phase helped define the final direction before moving into CAD. It also allowed the client to compare different ideas and choose the one that best represented the tournament.

3D modeling the trophy in SolidWorks

Once the concept was validated, the next step was to create the 3D model in SolidWorks.

This stage is where the idea became a manufacturable object. The design had to be clean, balanced, and easy to understand visually. At the same time, the two separate parts needed to fit together properly and feel like one complete trophy when assembled.

Using SolidWorks made it possible to control the dimensions, refine the shapes, check the assembly, and prepare the model for 3D printing.

From digital model to physical trophy

After the 3D model was ready, the trophy was prepared for 3D printing.

This step included checking the orientation, printability, proportions, and finishing details. The final result is a custom tennis trophy that can be displayed as one complete object, but also separated into two individual pieces for the winners.

The final trophy keeps the spirit of the tournament while offering something much more personal than a standard award.

Final result

The final piece is an original custom 3D printed tennis trophy designed specifically for a doubles tournament.

It combines the identity of the event, the tennis theme, and the symbolic idea of two players sharing one victory.

This is exactly the kind of project where 3D modeling and 3D printing make a real difference: creating a unique object that would be difficult to find ready-made, but perfectly possible to design and produce from scratch.
